Experienced Professionals with lived experience

Mark Rutledge B.Sc., M.Sc

I am a global sourcing and operations leader with more than 30 years of experience in the medical device and diagnostics sectors, specialising in the procurement, qualification, and supply of disposable medical and laboratory products. My career has been built on establishing reliable, compliant, and cost-effective supply chains that connect manufacturing partners in Asia with healthcare markets in the United States and Europe.

I have held senior leadership roles including General Manager, Supply Chain Director, and Operations Director, with direct accountability for supplier strategy, contract negotiation, freight and logistics management, and end-to-end quality and regulatory compliance in FDA, BSI, GMP, MDD/MDR and SOX environments. I have managed multi-million-dollar procurement portfolios, consolidated supplier bases, and delivered measurable improvements in landed cost, service levels and reliability of supply.

More recently, with the rise in geopolitical tension and the emergence since 2017 of new tarrif regimes, total landed cost and reliable supply has to be part of the sourcing equation in presenting solutions.

A substantial part of my professional life has been spent working on the ground with suppliers across China and Southeast Asia. I have travelled extensively throughout the region to evaluate manufacturing capabilities, negotiate commercial arrangements and build long-term supplier relationships. This hands-on presence has been critical in ensuring product quality, mitigating supply risk, and maintaining transparency from raw materials through to final sterile packaging and shipment. I have likewise worked closely with stakeholders in the United States, aligning sourcing and manufacturing outputs to customer, compliance, and market expectations.

My approach is practical, evidence-based, and collaborative. I work closely with clients to understand product requirements, regulatory considerations, and commercial objectives, and then align them with the right suppliers and logistics pathways. Whether supporting a start-up launching its first medical product or assisting a multinational in refining its sourcing strategy, I focus on delivering reliability, value, and control in the supply chain.

I offer consulting services in supplier identification and qualification, contract negotiation, cost analysis, supply chain optimisation, and ongoing supplier management for medical and laboratory disposable products.
